Bundaberg Distillery Achieves Record Visitor Numbers

Bondstore, the Bundaberg Rum Distillery Visitor Centre in central Queensland, has welcomed more than 68,000 visitors in the 2007-08 fiscal year, including 20,000 international visitors.

Bondstore manager, Peter Selinger, attributed the increase to a recent $2.5-million refurbishment of the distillery.

“The Bondstore has become a world-class interactive attraction in our very own backyard. We meet people from around the world who come to see the new ‘The Story of Rum’ exhibition and indoor visitor’s centre and take a journey through the history of this uniquely Australian brand,” he said.

“The historic grounds also received a facelift, incorporating the big Bundy bottle and new iconic murals on the Bondstore walls last year. Together, these attractions provide an entertaining experience for tourists and visitors, particularly those who want to understand more about the brand’s local history and heritage.”

Visitors to the birthplace of Bundaberg Rum can also see, smell and taste their way through the rum production process with a guided tour. It reveals the workings of the distillery and various stages of production, from the bondstores where the rum matures to the bottling line.

“We invite both tourists and lovers of Bundaberg Rum to come and experience this legendary Australian town in one of the most beautiful and renowned parts of our country,” Selinger said. Bondstore tours run on the hour from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am to 2.00pm on weekends and public holidays.
