Foster's appoints Former Police Chief

By Andrew Starke

Christine Nixon has joined the Foster's Group Limited Board of Directors as a non-executive director but faces a difficult week.

The former Victorian police chief was in the news last week when State Opposition Leader, Ted Baillieu, called for her resignation as head of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (VBRRA).

Nixon is due to reappear before the Victorian bushfire royal commission this week to clarify earlier evidence on how she spent Black Saturday last year, after revealing that she had left her post to join friends for dinner.

However, Foster's Chairman, David Crawford, paid tribute to Nixon’s ‘outstanding career in the NSW and Victorian Police force’ before her retirement in February 2009.

"On behalf of shareholders I am very pleased to welcome Christine to the Foster's Board,” he said.

"Christine's leadership, management experience and her strong community focus will be an asset at the Foster’s Board table.”

Following her retirement, Christine was appointed to lead the response effort for the 2009 'Black Saturday' Victorian bushfire tragedy as Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority.

“I’m excited by the opportunity,” Nixon said. “I look forward to drawing on my management experience and understanding of community issues to make a meaningful contribution as a Foster’s director.”
