ALIA Announces New Categories
By Rebecca Harris
To reflect the ever-changing liquor and hospitality industry, the Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA) has announced the introduction of six new categories to the most anticipated night of the industry’s year.
Those six new categories – Best Cider, Sales Rep of the Year, Best Sports Bar, Best Gaming Venue, Brand Ambassador of the Year and Publican of the Year – will better encapsulate the industry as a whole.
The cider category, in particular, represents the huge surge in sales and volume growth of the popular stone fruit-based beverage.
In addition, some of the other categories, such as the hotel and bar food categories have been refined to better reflect their place within the industry.
Once all votes have been accepted, the off-premise Liquor Awards and the on-premise Hotel, Bar & Club Awards categories will be submitted to respective panels of key industry figures who will decide the winners, to be announced at the official Awards ceremony on Wednesday, October 20.
Co-hosted by TorchMedia and Coca-Cola Amatil, more than 750 members of the trade are expected to attend the carnival-themed event to be held for the first time at The Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney.
The event will see a return of last year’s popular host Larry Emdur, along with food, fun and some surprise entertainment in what promises to be a night to remember.
As with last year, the initial off-premise voting data has been supplied by Nielsen, while accounting firm Ernst & Young will act as the official auditor of the event, and will verify all judging forms and winners.
