The Piano Room in Kings Cross faces an uncertain future after its owners, Trademark Hotels, were reported to have been placed in liquidation.
Contacted by TheShout, a spokesperson confirmed the venue would stay open indefinitely but refused to comment further.
However a report in yesterday’s Sunday Telegraph claimed unsecured creditors have declared debts of $1.2 million to Trademark Hotel’s liquidator.
This latest ruction to the Kings Cross pub scene follows the Benchmark Group acquiring the Crest Hotel and Solotel’s purchase of the Kings Cross Hotel.
In other news from the area, police have restricted entry to the main Kings Cross strip from Cowper Wharf Road to Wylde and Macleay Streets between midnight and 4am on Saturday and Sunday.
Only residents and accredited taxis were allowed access.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the closure responded to serious community concern about noise from unlawfully-modified cars, anti-social driving behaviour and traffic congestion in the area.
“The trial was extremely successful, with many residents writing to me supporting the closures,” she said. “I believe the trial should continue after the police finish their four week operations and will soon put a proposal to Council to extend the trail.”
The City plans to introduce a managed taxi rank on Bayswater Road, based on a proposal from the Kings Cross Police.
