The CEO of the NSW branch of the Australian Hotels Association has resigned, amid increasing pressure over his involvement in Liberal fundraising organisation Millennium Forum.

Sources have revealed to TheShout that Paul Nicolaou, who had already resigned from the now defunct Millenium Forum, has also relinquished his role with the AHA.

Nicolaou has been on indefinite “personal leave” since it became known the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) had begun investigating his involvement with questionable fundraising practices in the lead-up to the 2011 election.

John Whelan was appointed acting CEO of AHA NSW in April and will continue in that role until further notice.

Nicolaou’s resignation is believed to be effective tomorrow, and an official announcement by the Association is expected in the coming days.
