The wine cellar from collapsed Sydney restaurant group Becasse will go under the hammer in an online auction later this month.

GraysOnline has been appointed to auction the wines salvaged from Becasse, Quarter 21 and Etch, which will mostly be sold as singles or small packs.

Greg Fitzsimmons, manager of GraysOnline Private Cellar, told TheShout he expects the total collection to fetch upwards of $50,000.

It includes dessert wine from Bordeaux's Chateau d'Yquem, Pinot Noir from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in Burgundy, as well as premium wines from Australian producers like Kilikanoon, Henschke and Mosswood.

"We feel for the suppliers, we feel for the venue and we feel for the staff," Fitzsimmons said.

Wine suppliers recently called for greater accountability in the restaurant sector following a spate of high-profile closures.

  1. Another nail in the coffin for wholesalers……I’m a little surprised that LVMH would get caught out by these guys. Wouldnt mind a cheap botle of 2001 d’Yquem at a good price !
