A new restaurant bar, The Lane, has opened in the heart of Sydney, providing the CBD crowd with affordable fine dining and a drinking retreat.

The small but stylish venue is located in a laneway just off Curtin Place, which acts a barrier from the hustle and bustle that is just around the corner, allowing the place to keep both an indoor and outdoor ambience.

The Lane was launched by Julian and Sonja Amore, a husband and wife team that have run more than a dozen other food business in the past.

The idea behind their latest venture is to offer affordable fine dining dishes.

“I wanted to create something in the CBD that offered good food at an accessible price $21-24 main course. I made it affordable to attract everyone from the secretary to the CEO,” Julian Amore explained.

“We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner options, and obviously the lunch trade is important to the business but we are also a place people can have business meeting at over coffee and also somewhere people can to after work for a meal and a drink.”

The venue has an 80 person capacity and at the moment alcohol is provided through table service only although the owners expect to get a primary service licence in a few months.

“We are more wine orientated with good wine list but we also serve aperitifs and cocktails, and our drinks list will be seasonal just like our food menu,” Amore said.

The interior is decorated with a variety of antique furnishings that were sourced by Sonja, including a French iron wrought bench and an eye catching crystal decanter chandelier that she made herself.
