Given the track record of Justin Hemmes and his Merivale group, few in the industry are expecting a tacky, neon lit sports bar when York 75 is unveiled tomorrow night (Sep 16).

The latest addition to the Hemmes empire recognises that sports fans don’t want to compromise on style and the enjoyment of a game while having a drink with friends.

“Merivale will launch a new breed of sports bar this week for the more discerning fan – York 75,” said a spokesperson for Merivale.

“York 75 is a far cry from the tacky, neon lit sports bar of old with a warm feel of a Boston collegiate-style bar featuring mahogany walls, deep Chesterfield sofas and an inviting vibe.”

Situated at 75 York Street on the second level of Hotel CBD, the venue boasts 20 screens, including two 3D screens, offering every patron a good view of their sport of choice via live feed from Foxtel High Definition.

The bar claims to be the first in Australia to have 3D screens permanently installed.

It will also offer punter in-house sports betting and an extended trading license.

Booths seating eight patrons each are fitted with private LCD screens allowing complete freedom over the choice of sport.
