Lion is set to be announced as the new distributor of Corona in Australia, after Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo cut ties with Foster's on Friday.

Lion is yet to formally announce the Corona deal but the Kirin-owned company had firmed as Foster's replacement this afternoon.

Lion already markets and distributes Corona in the New Zealand market.

A Lion spokesperson told TheShout on Friday evening that the company has "nothing to confirm at this stage".

Grupo Modelo general manager oceania region, Garry Hastings, was unavailable.

A full report will follow on TheShout on Monday.
