El Público is a new modern Mexican restaurant and bar that recently opened its doors in Perth.

The laidback venue offers regional Mexican food served in a modern style, tequila cocktails, as well as a good selection of local and Mexican beers, and a refined wine list chosen to match the cuisine.

“We cater for anyone who wants a Mexican experience. Our food is regional Mexican in a modern style,” bar manager James Connolly said.

“We do all your classic tequila cocktails, and some house specialties.”

Located on Perth’s Beaufort Street, the small bar took six months to come to fruition with the owners doing a complete refurbishment of the premises, which previously housed a tapas bar.

The venue has a contemporary fit-out and is decorated with a range of Mexican artworks. It has a capacity for 120 patrons with a team that includes 20 floor staff and 10 chefs. Connolly said the venue has already been a hit with the locals.

“Things are going really well, Perth has embraced it. We’re selling lots of mezcal and tequila and having lots of fun,” he said.

“[People] are loving the food, and my arms feel like they are going to fall off from shaking so many margaritas – time for a blender!”
