Beer Sells for $2100

By Annette Shailer

A magnum of 2004 Coopers Vintage Ale has sold for a record breaking $2100 at an Adelaide auction, the largest amount ever paid for a bottle of Coopers.

The limited edition boxed magnum signed by Tim, Glen, Maxwell and Bill Cooper, was donated to the Brighton Football Club charity fundraiser to help former player Josh Liddy who became a tetraplegic following a tragic accident last year.

The event held on July 6 raised more than $100,000, with proceeds going toward medical expenses and housing renovations for the Liddy family.

Coopers was happy to contribute to the cause by donating the 2004 Vintage, and announced the 2008 Vintage Ale will be released in late August in time for Father’s Day.

In further news for Coopers, the brewer recently opened an office in New York to help drive exports into the US market.
Coopers chairman and marketing director, Glen Cooper, said the move aims to capitalise on America’s growing interest in the brand.

“We have been working with wholesalers on the east and west coast of America for a number of years and they have been urging us to increase our profile in the US,” he said. “There is a growing appreciation for our ales in the USA craft beer market which we are keen to push.”
