Hunter Gatherer, the latest venture from the owners of renowned Bondi establishments The Corner House and Panama House, has opened in North Sydney.
The bar and eatery is located on the rooftop of the Greenwood Plaza, will trade from Monday to Friday and aims to offer a better corporate food and drink option in North Sydney.
Owner Anthony Kaplan told TheShout: “It’s a concept that we are continually developing, but it is a play on the words hunter and gatherer. The menu works around pairing one hunted and one, two or three gathered dishes. It’s taken some inspiration from kitchens that have done it before, but we’re really working with the seasons and working as close as we can with local farmers.
“The primary service there is lunch, it’s the most obvious, but we really want to try and appeal to the corporate market that is in North Sydney and get people eating there at best daily and at worst several times a week. So we think that versatility and variety is the key, matched with some good service and good booze as well.”
Kaplan added that he is calling it a bar-eatery rather than a restaurant as there is a “pretty good alcohol focus”.
“We’ve got around 50 or 60 wines on the list, predominately Australian, but a few international, with a focus on organics or minimal interventions,” Kaplan told TheShout.
“We also doing a bit of a cocktail focus, we’re house-bottling some cocktails and we’re also working with some native flavours. We also have a few beer taps on rotation and there are a few local breweries that we’re aligned with as well.”
Although the venue has opened with Monday to Friday trading, Kaplan did not rule out the move to bring in weekends in the future.
“I think that’s something down the line,” he said. “The focus is getting the weekdays right. Our research indicates there is quite a lot of function business in that part of the north shore, so we are going to heavily market it for venue hire or functions. Historically North Sydney doesn’t have a lot of activity on weekends, but there is a big residential development process in the area at the moment, so we’ll see what’s happening when summer comes around.”
Hunter Gatherer is now open and is located close to the Greenwood Hotel on top of the Greenwood Plaza.
