Barons Brewing Company has signed up as the major sponsor of the New York Magpies, a US Australian Football League (USAFL) team formed to promote the code in the US.

The New York Magpies are one of 45 clubs across the US that form the US AFL league. The 2008 USAFL footy season kicks off in June, with a special rule that requires a minimum of 50 per cent of players on the field must be non-Australian to keep the game fair.

“Our mission is to share the great Aussie Rules game with New York and the USA,” said New York Magpies director of marketing and events, Dylan Bryant.

“Our partnership with Barons could not be more appropriate. It’s a truly Australian quality craft beer and the New York Magpies are proud to be sharing and promoting it in the US.”

The Magpies will take on North Carolina in their first match of the season on June 21.  For more information, click here.
