Tooheys Extra Dry has launched 5 Seeds, a lightly sparkling cider aimed at capitalising on the growing cider market in Australia in time for summer.

Strong performance of cider in overseas markets prompted the addition of 5 Seeds to the Tooheys Extra Dry portfolio, as local growth of the segment indicates that overseas success is set to be replicated in Australia.

The brewing team behind 5 Seeds is the same team responsible for producing Tooheys Extra Dry.

Their approach to 5 Seeds was to use premium ingredients, including real apple juice sourced from Braeburn apples.

The apple juice is then fermented and balanced with cane sugar to create a medium cider with slightly tangy apple characteristics coming through in both the aroma and flavour.

In a nod to 5 Seeds main ingredient, the cider derives its name from the five seeds found in an apple when cut across the core.

Tooheys category director, Ben Slocombe, said the launch meant exciting growth for the Tooheys Extra Dry brand.

“We are really excited about the latest addition to the Tooheys Extra Dry family. Cider is new territory for Lion Nathan and we see great potential in the market for a well-balanced, refreshing cider with a focus on quality,” Slocombe said.

5 Seeds is now available nationally both on- and off-premise.
