Campari Australia has announced plans to compete in the increasingly competitive super-premium tequila space with the launch of a 100 percent Weber Blue Agave tequila brand.

Espolón will be marketed to consumers and trade as a ‘real tequila’, with the focus on its Mexican heritage.

Blanco and Reposado options will be made available to the local market.

The packaging is inspired by classic nineteenth century artwork and the iconic rooster, a symbol of Mexican national pride.

Handcrafted with Estate-owned Weber Blue Agave, these tequilas are distilled and bottled at Destiladora San Nicolas, an artisan distillery in the Los Altos (highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico.

Espolón Tequila Blanco will have a RRP of $47.99 per 750ml bottle and is said to have a soft mouth feel with light- to medium-bodied palate and bright agave flavour with notes of pepper, vanilla bean and grilled pineapple.

Espolón Tequila Reposado will have a RRP of $49.99 per 750ml bottle and displays a rich, golden-hued colour with aromas of spice, caramel and a hint of chocolate.

Both have 40 percent ABV and have been acknowledged with numerous international awards.

Campari Australia is the local wholly-owned subsidiary of Gruppo Campari.
