Solotel has added the operations of three inner-Sydney hotels that were put up for sale by the receivers and administrators of the Public Hospitality portfolio.

Solotel, one of Sydney’s most esteemed pub groups, has announced that it has added the operations of The Norfolk in Redfern, Oxford House in Paddington, and Camelia Grove Hotel in Alexandria to its portfolio of pubs and hotels.

The city-fringe assets were three of five placed in a sale campaign led by Colliers, on behalf of the receivers of Public Hospitality. Solotel has taken on the operations of the venues. Also up for sale in the campaign are The Strand Hotel in and the Exchange Hotel development site, both in Darlinghurst.

The addition of the three venues takes Solotel’s portfolio – which includes The Abercrombie, Barangaroo House, The Golden Sheaf, The Clock, The Bank and Paddo Inn among other inner city pubs – to 30 venues in total. It also adds another 58 rooms of accommodation to the group.

Rico’s Tacos is a very popular casual eatery found within the courtyard at The Norfolk, Redfern.

The Camelia Grove Hotel sits on a 573 sqm corner block opposite the South Eveleigh precinct, and includes an Italian trattoria and dining room, public bar, sports bar, two outdoor patio areas, four accommodation rooms, and 13 PMEs.

The Norfolk Hotel, which also underwent a massive renovation in 2021, has multiple F&B offerings, a popular beer garden which includes the famed Rico’s Tacos offering, a first-floor function area, and a four-bedroom short-term rental apartment with separate access.

Oxford House Hotel, a boutique accommodation hotel, is located on Oxford St halfway between the CBD and Bondi, and occupies 872 sqm of land. It was being offered with vacant possession.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Solotel, and we couldn’t be prouder to be able to revitalise these much-loved venues for their communities and their teams,” stated Solotel CEO Elliot Solomon.

“Each of them already delivers fantastic experiences for their guests and this opportunity means that the teams can access more resources to build on that. Watch this space as we have exciting plans to evolve these venues over the next 12 months.”

Boutique accommodation Oxford House includes a rooftop pool and bar offering.

With already a decent footprint within Sydney, Solomon stated these acquisitions expanded that reach further.

“It also means we can serve even more areas of Sydney which is part of our commitment to grow the hospitality industry across this great city, supporting vibrant and thriving communities.”

Solotel was named Best Hotel Group Operator at the 2024 Australian Liquor Industry Awards.

Correction 4pm 09/12/24: An earlier version of this story suggested that Solotel had acquired the venues. It has taken over operations.
