The team behind Clare Valley winery Skillogalee Estate has acquired nearby pub, The Rising Sun Hotel.

Situated at the southern entry to Clare Valley, The Rising Sun Hotel has stood proudly for 175 years, and will now be taken over by the Clausen family.

As its new custodians, the team behind Skillogalee Estate are thrilled to bring to this iconic pub their deep connection to the region and a commitment to celebrating its people, produce and places. The hotel is located 15 minutes south of the winery.

The Rising Sun Hotel will now close temporarily while the front bar is given a light refurbishment and essential upgrades are made to the historic venue’s facilities.

The front bar will reopen first, with the back dining room and accommodation to follow in coming months. The venue’s gaming machines will be removed.

“We love Auburn, the Clare Valley and the community that makes this region so special,” says owner Simon Clausen.

“The Rising Sun has always been a community meeting place. We’re really looking forward to honouring that and creating a warm, generous and local experience built on great food and drink, and great company.”

When it reopens, The Rising Sun will offer a revitalised take on the classic country pub – honest fare made with fresh, seasonal produce sourced from South Australia’s exceptional growers.

The drinks list will showcase the Clare Valley’s outstanding wineries, alongside a rotating tap of South Australian-only beers, anchored by Coopers.

The Rising Sun will be run by the same talented team behind Skillogalee. The kitchen will be overseen by executive chef Dan Moss, known for his locavore approach and strong ties to the region. Executive hospitality manager Priscila Cunha will be responsible for front of house. Operations across both venues will be led by general manager Guy Parkinson, who will also be behind the taps on opening day, pouring the first beers to welcome the Clare Valley community back through The Rising Sun’s doors.

The Skillogalee team are no strangers to hospitality, with the estate having welcomed guests through its cellar door and restaurant for the last 30 years.

Further announcements on the reopening date and dining offerings at Rising Sun Hotel will be shared in coming weeks.
