Ghanem Group has called on the local community to have their say on the name of the Brisbane pub currently known as the Fox Hotel.
Ghanem Group is currently transforming the heritage-listed pub, located in the heart of Fish Lane, South Brisbane, into a multi-level destination for dining, events and entertainment.
Originally built in the 1920s, the Brisbane landmark was first known as the Terminus Hotel, a nod to its location near to the city’s railway hub and port – it was renowned as a place of rest and refreshment for weary travellers. It was renamed The Fox in the late 90s, becoming a much-loved institution.
Thirty years on, and locals, regulars and those who have partied – or partaken in a beer or two in the much-loved institution – are being invited to help name the venue for its next era.
Three naming options are on the table:
● Terminus Hotel – restoring the original name
● The Fox – retaining its current name
● Open suggestions for a completely new name
Members of the public can cast their votes online over the coming weeks.
“We’re inviting those who have been part of the venue’s colourful story, to help shape its future identity – whether you sipped your first beer here, celebrated a milestone event, or just have a great name in mind, we want to hear from you,” stated Ghanem Group director Adonis Ghanem.
Ghanem Group’s iteration of the pub includes a full interior redesign and fit-out by Space Cubed Design Studio, which intends to respect the hotel’s legacy. It will conserve its heritage features and Art Deco charm, while delivering a collection of modern dining and drinking experiences and multiple cuisines under one roof.
The patron experience will unfold over four discrete floors, each of which captures an era of the hotel’s eclectic past, delivering a multi-venue experience at one outstanding location.
“This is our largest and one of our most exciting projects to date,” stated Ghanem Group director, Adonis Ghanem.
“The growing community of this area has long-awaited the return of this legendary venue, and to have the opportunity to bring the next era of dining and entertainment to this iconic site is a true honour. This is a project that we are very much excited about.”
Adonis Ghanem will be speaking at the Pub Leaders Summit in Brisbane on Monday 21 July. Ghanem will participate in two panels: one on pub investment, with Richard Deery (Story Bridge Hotel, QHA) and Albert Hakfoort (Hakfoort Group); and one on new F&B opportunities with Mark Condi (Duxton Pubs) and Ben Turner (Redcape).
