Australian Venue Co (AVC) has reopened the Mick O’Shea’s Hotel in Hackham, South Australia, with a revitalised design that modernises the offering while preserving the warmth and charm that has made the pub a community anchor.
Transforming the venue into a more versatile space, AVC has revealed a refreshed dining experience with a new, approachable menu, a revitalised beer garden and extended pavilion, an expansive new childrens’ playground and an updated gaming room.
Venue manager Michael Davey shared his excitement about reopening the refreshed venue to locals: “Our vision was to create a place where everyone feels welcome, whether it’s a family lunch in the bistro, a night out with friends, or an afternoon of live sport in the beer garden – we [opened] in time for the AFL Grand Final after all! The buzz from the community has been incredible.”
The new beer garden was a major focus of the renovation, with a new stage for live music sessions and lawn events, 85” screens for sports viewing and a large children’s playground making Mick O’Shea’s a destination venue. Double its original footprint, the expanded pavilion function room now has the ability to configure into multiple sizes, complete with a new bar.
Inside, modern pub classics meet light bites and share plates in the refreshed bistro, where AVC has put a contemporary lens on dining – catering to casual catch-ups with approachable, shareable dishes.
Alongside the usual schnitzels, steaks and burgers, highlights from the new menu include battered zucchini flowers with fennel and apple slaw, lemon peppered squid, beef and Guinness pie, lamb rump and spiced vegetable tagine.
“Mick O’Shea’s has always been about good food, cold drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. These renovations have given the pub a modern edge while staying true to its roots. It’s the same Mick O’Shea’s our locals know and love, only better,” Davey added.
As AVC ushers Mick O’Shea’s into its next chapter, the 12 existing accommodation rooms have also been upgraded, with the entertainment calendar and weekly specials also getting a refresh.
To celebrate the reopening, the pub will host a Locals Launch Weekend on Friday 10 to Sunday 12 October in the revamped beer garden with live music, giveaways, competitions and kids’ entertainment.
