Hurley Hotel Group has completed a $2 million transformation of the Torrens Arms Hotel in Mitcham, giving a contemporary European edge to the inner-southern suburb pub.

Central to the new offering is the courtyard area, which has been extended and reworked to create a more expansive outdoor entertaining space. The courtyard features a new bar hut which gives consumers access to direct service in this area for the first time, alongside a new fireplace decked in wood, additional booth seating, greenery and large, open windows.

The transformation continues inside, where Fleur Linke from Surround Interiors has taken cues from European hospitality design and incorporated a muted palate of greens, blues and neutrals, paired with deep burgundies.

Designed to feel elegant yet approachable, the restaurant and lounge bar have been finished with gold accents, light wood panelling and textured stone. The lower formal dining area features booth seating, meanwhile the upper lounge is a much cosier space with casual lounge chairs and dim lighting.

The food menu has also been given a refresh – pub classics are here to stay, with a greater focus on high quality food and service. Schnitzels still have a place on the menu in three variations, with vegan, chicken and beef to choose from. Other highlights include hand-stretched pizzas, burgers, a selection of grill dishes, salads and more.

Rounding out the renovations, the public bar and gaming room have also been updated.

Jake Deslandes, hotel manager at the Torrens Arms, says: “Customers can expect something different when they walk through the doors. The new TA has a real European feel to it, and we’re really focusing on making it a more light, airy space that will be a great place to settle in with friends or family, especially as the months start to become warmer.”

Hurley Hotel Group has unveiled the Torrens Arms’ new look in its 50th anniversary year, having originally acquired the pub in 1994.

The renovation isn’t the only project undertaken by the Hurley family this year, with the ongoing Hotel Panorma project representing one of the group’s biggest builds yet following the recent success of the Arkaba Hotel overhaul.
