Three Pound Group has acquired the lease of the popular inner Perth pub, The Flying Scotsman. The hotel has been closed since April.
The leasehold of popular Mount Lawley pub The Flying Scotsman has been nabbed by Three Pound Group, the operators of Perth venues The Camfield, The Stables and The Reveley. Three Pound Group will now take the next twelve months to complete a significant renovation to the pub.
“We have started all of our current venues from scratch so this will be the group’s first renovation of a heritage listed venue,” said Three Pound Group general manager and co-owner, Tim McLernon.
“The Flying Scotsman has always been a pub that our group has kept an eye on so when it became available, we jumped at the chance to acquire it and add it to our portfolio. We think it complements our existing assets very well and we know that we will be able to turn it into a venue that will suit the local community.”
The beloved pub has been closed since April, after the last venue operators and landlord couldn’t come to an agreement about the lease. At the time, publican Chris Vivian told Seven West Media that he had protracted negotiations with the landlord to renew the lease pre-COVID, but once the lease ended in April, the landlord asked him to vacate the premises.
In a statement, the landlord welcomed Three Pound Group as the new operators of the hotel.
“The lease on The Flying Scotsman became available earlier this year and the owners were inundated with expressions of interest from over 20 potential tenants including multinational companies. What Three Pound Group brought to the table was a wealth of experience and success in some of the best hospitality venues in Australia and this, coupled with the plans and vision they have for the iconic venue, ensured they were the successful applicants.
“Once renovations have been completed the owners believe The Flying Scotsman will morph into a ‘Must Go To’ destination within the Perth hospitality ccene.”
Patrons can expect significant changes to the design of the venue and an upgrade of the alfresco area. A refreshed menu will be headed up by group executive chef Ben Keal, and will centre around modern-Australian pub classics.
