The Lion Hotel of North Adelaide is launching a new event championing the local community, ‘Kick. Start. Sundays.’ On the first Sunday of each month the hotel will collaborate and showcase the work of a local artist, designer, craftsman or entrepreneur.
With a thriving art scene in Adelaide, the initiative is a great way for local talent to showcase their works. The debut artist who will be in the spotlight this Sunday is James Hopgood, also known as Kameo, who is a graphic designer and aerosol artist.
Hopgood has been painting in the graffiti style ofr many years, and has had work commissioned by the Ministry of Sound’s Australia and UK divisions.
Hopgood hopes to host his first solo exhibition in 2016, and is looking towards different opportunities to work towards that goal. At the Lion Hotel, the artist will be creating a live art installation, a large mural that will be on display on the Melbourne Street side of the venue for a month.
Jacob Wright, general manager of the Lion Hotel, is very excited for the new initiative and what it will do for the local community.
“We’re always hearing reports of Adelaide’s talented young professionals and entrepreneurs being lured interstate and overseas due to the lack of local support. So we’ve decided to lend our support and give them a helping hand.
“This is our chance to give back to our patrons, locals and the broader community, and share the goodwill with the next generation of Adelaide’s shining stars.”
As part of the event, live entertainment will be playing throughout the day, and drink specials will be offered including on Sailor Jerry Coconuts, Havana Club Mojitos and Coronas.
