The Bat & Ball Hotel in Sydney’s Surry Hills, has been bought by hoteliers Jim, Harris and Steven Kospetas from Universal Hotel Group.
The group’s other Sydney CBD hotels include the Civic Hotel, Universal, V Bar and newly opened The Mill in Bondi Junction.
The Bat & Ball is located on a busy corner of Cleveland and South Dowling Streets and is in close proximity to both the Moore Park sports and entertainment precinct, the Sydney Cricket Ground and the soon to be completed Sydney Football Stadium.
The hotel has a 2am liquor licence and 10 gaming machines and sits on a 504 sqm landholding and includes 15 accommodations rooms.
“As a family, we’re always active in the marketplace, and the opportunity to add this landmark property to our portfolio was something we mobilised quickly to achieve,” CEO Harris Kospetas said.
The Kospetas family sold Kinselas Hotel at the end of 2020 for $45m to MA Hotel Management, and has also recently acquired the freehold of the Tempe Hotel for $10m and a leasehold of the Newtown Hotel for $5m.
The Bat & Ball’s seller was Chinese group Cator Investment which paid $4.5 million for the property and business in 2014, and sold it to its new owners for $10m, according to the AFR.
HTL Property’s Blake Edwards and Sam Handy said they negotiated a deal between the landlord, tenant and purchaser together.
“Having sold the hotel to the current vendor, we were delighted to again enjoy engagement to find an exit solution honouring the objectives of all deal participants,” Edwards said.
