South Eveleigh is due to welcome the first outlet of global craft beer giant BrewDog in Sydney.
The South Eveleigh site is the second location that BrewDog and Australian Venue Co. (AVC) have partnered on, following BrewDog Pentridge, which is due to open later this year in the historic Pentridge Prison site in Melbourne.
The Sydney venue is also only the fourth BrewDog bar to be found in Australia, as the Scottish beer group has already opened two sites in Brisbane.
Worldwide, BrewDog operates more than 100 bars, while AVC is one of Australia’s most significant pub groups.
AVC’s NSW state manager, Evan Gargaro, said he was delighted to be bringing the BrewDog brand to the Harbour City.
“We’re so excited to bring ‘The Dog’ to Sydney! The space is truly incredible, we’re thrilled to be part of the next chapter of the historic South Eveleigh precinct.”
In particular, Gargaro believes that the venue will open just in time for the busy celebration season.
“The huge beer garden is going to be a hit, we can’t wait to open this venue just in time for the Sydney summer.”
The new venue will be sizeable, with room for 720 indoors, and a further 190 outside. The location is set to offer an indoor dining space, in addition to a bar with 40 taps, and a beer garden. A combination of BrewDog draught beers and tap takeovers from local breweries will be on offer.
BrewDog South Eveleigh will devote half its food menu to plant-based options, with a range of vegan and vegetarian offerings alongside the brand’s traditional burgers, wings and pizzas.
In all, the project is set to cost $3.2m, and is predicted to support 40 new local jobs in front of house, back of house and management. The venue has been designed by Melbourne based interiors agency, Studio Y, keeping in mind the location’s original use as a locomotive workshop – with traditional machinery on display, and heritage features preserved.
The precinct is managed by Mirvac, and John Fairbairn, Mirvac’s portfolio manager, said the addition of BrewDog was another sign of the liveliness of the area.
“The South Eveleigh precinct is now a thriving tech and innovation hub, a living museum of Australia’s Industrial Revolution and home to great public community spaces.
“BrewDog’s new venue is going to be the ultimate final addition to our heritage Locomotive Workshop, complementing the exciting offering of eateries and retail, which opened last year. A fantastic spot for lunches and dinners in a location like no other, I’m personally looking forward to enjoying a brew or two,” Fairbairn concluded.
