The Kurrajong Hotel in Erskineville has been sold – closing one more chapter in the ongoing Public Hospitality portfolio sell-off.
Following on from the sale of Paddington’s Rose, Shamrock and Thistle Hotel, known colloquially as The Three Weeds, HTL Property has announced the successful sale of Erskineville’s Kurrajong Hotel.
Since last trading, the inner-Sydney pub underwent a complete makeover in 2023, including the addition of a third level, meaning the pub has two full floors comprising 20 en-suited accommodation rooms.
“The transaction reflects the continued and patent strength of the Sydney pub market, with significant interest from a broad range of buyers attracted to the hotel’s prominent corner position; and strategic location with regard the city fringe,” stated HTL’s Dan Dragicevich.
The Kurrajong Hotel also boasts a spacious ground floor bar and dining area; and popular outdoor spaces hugging the perimeter of the building on a corner site.
“The sale of the Kurrajong Hotel demonstrates continued robust demand for quality hospitality properties in prime inner-urban locations; and brings to 20 the number of Sydney pubs sold by our specialist agency this year alone,” stated HTL Property’s Andrew Jolliffe.
While HTL would not be drawn on the identity of the successful buyer, the new owners are expected to continue operating the Kurrajong Hotel in line with its rich traditions and standing within the local community.
The sale of Kurrajong Hotel is the latest chapter in the ongoing breakdown of Jon Agdemis’ Public Hospitality Group. In mid-2024, after months of rumblings about its financial status and a $400m refinancing deal with KPMG, several Public Hospitality venues were placed in receivership, and the sell-offs have begun.
Besides Three Weeds and Kurrajong Hotel, the Town Hall Hotel in Balmain has also been sold in recent months, while Solotel took on the management of three inner-city venues at the end of 2024. Public’s only Victorian venue, The Clifton Hotel in Kew, is currently up for sale via an EOI campaign that closes Thursday 11 September.
