The Comiskey Group has unveiled plans to construct a hotel, shopping centre and village, beginning in early 2023.
The site will be located in the suburb of Dakabin, and will occupy 3.75 hectares of land. The development is slated to include a 2,500sqm shopping centre, a village, shops, a gym, cafes and fast foot outlets.
Comiskey Group director, Rob Comiskey, believes the development and hotel will bring a greater diversity of dining options to local residents.
“We are focusing on the food, looking to support locally grown produce where possible and deliver the unexpected to diners. It’s going to be a unique hotel in offering and design, we’re meeting with architects to ensure it makes a statement,” Comiskey said.
The Dakabin Hotel will include a new restaurant, a bar, a gaming room, and a playground and large outdoor area. The group is planning to provide an elevated pub experience, and jobs, to the local area.
“Dakabin Hotel itself will employ over 50 staff across both full-time and casual positions, and the overall centre should see 250 job opportunities,” Comiskey added.
The site is located adjacent to the Alma and Old Gympie Roads – and the director says that the group had admired the location for some time prior to its sale.
“The drawcard really was the site’s corner position on two major roads, as well as its close proximity to North Lakes [shopping centre]. The high-volume location is a convenient place for the community to come, allowing for great exposure of our tenants,” Comiskey explained.
“We are always on the hunt for opportunities in high growth areas and this was definitely one we couldn’t let pass us by.”
News of this development follows that of the Sunshine Coast Aura Community, a $35m development which is expected to be the region’s largest hotel and music venue. In all, the Comiskey Group are expecting to double their portfolio in the near future.
