Utopia Gaming Systems, the owner and operator of the Global Gaming System which is in use in more than a thousand Australian venues, has gained approval from the NSW regulator to participate in a sandbox trial for its digital cashless solution.
Utopia has upgraded its Global Gaming System to provide a simple end-to-end solution for a cashless digital gaming floor.
The trial, which is due to begin in early 2022, will take place in a single venue. It will be part of the NSW Regulatory Sandbox, which means Utopia can test its concept in a live setting for a limited time under relaxed regulatory requirements with appropriate safeguards in place.
While digital wallets are quite common and in use for gaming overseas, this is believed to be the first regulated digital sandbox trial of this type in Australia.
Utopia is currently choosing the venue and deciding on the duration of the trial but says it is hoping to provide feedback by March.
“We are pleased our Global Gaming solution has been approved for the trial,” Utopia general manager Alan Townsend said. “We have made a significant investment in recent years to build a system to meet the future needs of our customers, and this is an important milestone for Utopia and our venues.”
