Bondi Junction pub The Eastern has officially reopened as Billy The Pig, a late-night, no-frills bar that takes cues from the pub’s rich history.
Opened under a 17-month residency by Icebergs restauranteur Maurice Terzini and Jacksons on George co-partner Michael Broome, the venue is described as “a love letter to the classic Australian public bar”.
The pair have honoured historical anecdotes of the pub, which became known locally as Billy The Pig’s Hotel because of the original publican’s treatment of punters, through both the menu and design.
The food menu nods to the nostalgia of classic pub dishes with counter meals such as chicken schnitzel, fish and chips and bangers and mash, paired with Italian dishes like calamari Saint Andrea and lasagna.
Local breweries like Young Henrys, Philter, Sydney Beer Co. and Yulli’s feature on the beer list, while the cocktail menu is playful in its approach with reimagined old classics like Colada, Japanese Slipper and Fruit Tingle.
Live music will also play a big part in the venue’s offering, with DJs, producers and live bands set to perform at Billy The Pig from 9pm five nights a week.
