MenCarthy Pub Group has expanded its presence in the Toowoomba region with the acquisition of the Pittsworth Hotel Motel and the Fiveways Hotel.
The two venues, which were previously owned by a syndicate of local families, have long been active in the region’s hospitality communities. The group sold the two hotels to MenCarthy Pub Group in a direct off-market transaction handled by JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group and Power Jeffrey & Co.
Located 41 kilometres south-west of Toowoomba in Pittsworth, the Pittsworth Hotel Motel was originally built in 1903. It was twice destroyed by fire – first in 1932 and again in 1969 – before being rebuilt as a single-storey brick hotel. Over the past 30 years, the hotel has been locally owned and operated, offering all-day dining at The Hermitage Bistro, a sports bar, a kids’ arcade, 16 gaming machines, nine accommodation rooms and two bottle shops – Bottlemart Drive Thru and Yandilla Cellars.
The Fiveways Hotel is one of the oldest in Toowoomba’s history, having undergone many renovations throughout the years. Today, the hotel comprises a sports bar, family-friendly bistro, gaming room with 18 machines and drive-through bottle shop.
The acquisitions mark another step in MenCarthy Pub Group’s steady regional growth, having already acquired the Downs Hotel in Drayton on Toowoomba’s southwest fringe last year. The group also owns pubs in Crows Nest and Burpengary.
