North-west Sydney based pub group, Momento Hospitality, is set to open The Governor in Macquarie Park in July. The pub is set to bring a multi-faceted venue to the rapidly growing area in Sydney’s north-west, offering a diverse range of spaces for patrons to eat, drink and socialise in.
The ground floor of The Governor will house the main public bar and bistro of the pub, with the bistro having a capacity for 160 people. Designed by Edith Clark, the space is outfitted with a light timber bar, royal green tiles, plush stools, dark timbers and accents of greenery. Six booths are inspired by an old train carriage, and the indoor space is finished off with a fireplace and a portrait of Governor Macquarie drawn by a member of the team at Momento Hospitality, Olivia Anderson. The outdoor terrace complements the rest of the ground floor, using exposed brick, timber detailing, a live green wall and festoon lighting to finish off the space. The Governor also encompasses a rooftop bar, Ess, with its own bar and kitchen as well as 360 degree views of the local area.
Momento Hospitality’s CEO, Marcello Colosimo, suggested that The Governor brings a sophisticated offering to an area that is in the midst of rapid expansion.
“The area is a world class business park and needs facilities to cater for the workforce visitors and residents so they don’t have to travel to fulfil their expectations. We wanted to create a venue with great quality F&B that can be enjoyed at any time of the day due to the intimate design of downstairs and beautiful rooftop garden focusing on sharing plates and cocktails upstairs.”
The food and beverage offering has been put together by head chef Luke Lashford (ex Sheraton on the Park) who has most recently headed up the kitchens at another Momento Hospitality venue, The Australian Hotel and Brewery. Lashford has created a variety of food options for the venue, including wood-fired pizzas, poke bowls and lamb shoulder to share downstairs, while the rooftop menu focuses on Asian-inspired share plates using a Japanese charcoal grill.
“That’s the key to creating a pub where you’ll want to return time and time again. And it’s exactly what The Governor is all about. It’s somewhere you can settle in no matter what the hour and be well fed and watered no matter where you decide to perch,” the chef stated about the menu variety.
The beverage offering is overseen by bar manager Andrew Ratcliff (ex Baxter Inn, Eau de Vie), and will focus on both classic and seasonal cocktails that will be matched to Lashford’s menus.
With such a long-term project almost ready to open, Colosimo cannot wait to share the venue with the local community, and develop it even further.
“This project to establish a venue at Macquarie Park has been 10 years in the making; we are so excited to showcase the Governor finally and I can’t wait to see peoples’ reactions when they walk into the venue for the first time and are proud to call it their local.
“The site also has future growth potential and we will look to develop the other two floors into both social functions and shared work spaces over the next year.”
