Pig ‘N’ Whistle, the six British-style branded pubs in and around Brisbane, have collaborated with Victoria’s Mountain Goat brewery to create an exclusive, limited edition beer, The Guv’nor’s English summer ale.
Pig ‘N’ Whistle, the pub offering from Mantle Group, focuses on small craft beers from around Australia and internationally. With an increasing reputation for craft beer, the group decided to collaborate with Mountain Goat to create their own brew.
The Guv’nor’s is an English summer ale, made with British hops. The name of the ale was left up to Pig ‘N’ Whistle patrons, who were encouraged to come up with a name that reflected both the pub brand and the brewery. Rod Bone came up with the name The Guv’nor, and was awarded $200 voucher for the Pig ‘N’ Whistle of his choice, and was one of the first people to try the beer.
The Guv’nor’s has already been received well by patrons, and is only expected to be available for about a month.
“Pig ‘N’ Whistle Riverside will go through at least five kegs a week, meaning the limited edition The Guv’nor’s will be available to the public for the next 3-4 weeks,” stated venue manager, Jack Nicholson.
The summer ale is made with English Target and German Hull melon hops, and English Maris Otter and New Zealand Lager malts. It’s light gold in appearance, has a subtle watermelon aroma and a crisp refreshing flavour. Nicholson stated that the beer is already popular with patrons, with the feedback being “positive, with comments that it was a very sessionable beer.”
The Guv’nor’s will be on tap at all six Pig ‘N’ Whistle venues until sold out.
