The three stops on the Pub Leaders Summit tour have been announced, visiting venues across the greater metropolitan area that take in an award-winning pub; one highly-anticipated large-format pub not yet open to the public; and one new venue that makes the most of the social activity trend that has swept the UK and US.
The Study Tour was first introduced as a component of the Pub Leaders Summit last year in Brisbane. Following on from that success, this year’s half-day Study Tour – which will take place on Monday 9 September – will visit three pubs across Sydney: The Log Cabin in Penrith; Oran Park Hotel; and Flight Club Sydney. See more below on each venue.
The Log Cabin
The Log Cabin in Penrith was named Metropolitan Hotel of the Year at the AHA NSW Awards in 2023. Destroyed by fire in 2012, the Log Cabin site was acquired by Laundy Hotels and two local families in 2020, rebuilt and reopened in 2022. Located on the banks of the Nepean River, the hotel now offers scenic views, and a massive outdoor space, it’s also home to Sinclair’s, a premium restaurant that heroes produce that has grown within 50km of the pub. It’s a breathtaking space – expect more awards on the horizon.
Oran Park Hotel
Oran Park is the highly anticipated new greenfields venue by esteemed Sydney pub operator Momento Hospitality. Not yet open, Study Tour attendees will get a sneak peek into the venue before it opens to the public. Set to be the largest hospitality destination in New South Wales, Oran Park Hotel’s first stage will comprise an expansive indoor-outdoor bistro and lounge; pizzeria; children’s play area; and an interactive sports bar, complete with multiple large screens, pool tables and darts. The second stage – expected to open later in the year – will include a dedicated meeting and events floor on level two and a luxe rooftop bar, Jinja, on level three.
Flight Club Sydney
Flight Club Sydney opened in June this year and is the first Flight Club franchise located on Australia’s eastern seaboard. In 2021, NightOwl Entertainment opened their first Flight Club branded venue in Perth. The concept is a social darts experience which has taken the world by storm after first opening in a UK pub before expanding across Europe and the USA. NightOwl had been searching for a flagship Sydney location for over three years, before finding the ideal location in The Rocks and undertaking a significant $10m renovation. Study Tour attendees will enjoy a game of darts, food and beverages at the as the last stop of the Tour.
“The Study Tour aims to bring insights and inspiration to publicans from across the country, as well as another networking opportunity,” stated Australian Hotelier managing editor Vanessa Cavasinni.
“The collegiate nature of the industry is underscored by the fact that the operators of these three innovative venues are host Study Tour attendees and share their insights, and we thank them for that.”
Due to the limited capacity on the Pub Leaders Summit Study Tour, tickets are only available to venue operators who have also purchased a ticket to the Pub Leaders Summit conference and showcase. The conference will be held the following day on Tuesday 10 September at Waterview at Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park.
