From 31 May, Optus Sport is making broadcasting top-tier football (soccer) even easier, by switching from satellite to streaming delivery.

As sports broadcasting has continued to fragment among different providers, cost and complexity of legacy satellite systems have remained a barrier for venues deploying multiple live sports offerings. It’s a real paint point for venues, as patrons continue to demand a wide variety of sports-viewing. By building a dedicated venue streaming platform, Optus Sport has made it easier for venues to now quickly and cost effectively deploy a whole new range of sports offerings.

“Choice and competition are critical in any industry, and we believe that our dedicated streaming platform for commercial venues which Optus Sport Business has built, and are in the process of deploying, will inject much needed competition into the sports broadcasting space within commercial venues,” stated Scott Davoren, business lead for Optus Sport.

Football fever

Football – or soccer, as we sometimes call it – isn’t just a game in Australia. It’s a way of life. From packed grassroots fields on the weekend to the international spotlight, the beautiful game has never been more loved.

Publicans would know this firsthand, with many pubs being the main sponsors of their local football clubs. Keep that passion going by inviting your local football community into your venue to watch the latest big match with Optus Sport.

With the rights to the Premier League and the Womens Super League, Optus Sport can deliver your pub a crowd of football fanatics. Not only are these leagues the most popular in the world, but a lot of Aussie stars are involved, so they are particularly popular here.

Australian legend Ange Postecoglou is the head coach of Tottenham Hotspurs – making him the first Australian to manage a Premier League team. Australia is also represented on the pitch, with Joe Gauci playing as goalie for Aston Villa; Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo playing for Ipswich Town; Garang Kuol playing for Newcastle; and Cameron Peupion playing for Brighton.

The popularity of the Matildas has also gone through the roof with men, women and children alike since their World Cup campaign on home soil. With several of the Matildas playing in the WSL, showing these matches is also a great way to get groups of fans into your venue.

Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross are at Arsenal; Katrina Gorry is at West Ham; and Mary Fowler is at Manchester City. Hotspurs fans will be keen to see Hayley Raso and Clare Hunt at Tottenham. Everyone is a Sam Kerr fan, so get your venues ready for when she makes her return to Chelsea once recovered from her ACL injury!

This isn’t just sport – it’s a crowd-puller, a conversation-starter, and a real business booster. So, get the game on, get the fans in, and get ready to make your venue the home of football in your community.

Venues keen to get into the football spirit can enhance their offer with Optus Sport’s promotional assets as well.

“We take a fan’s first approach to our broadcasts, and this extends to our venue partners, and we love supporting venues with promotional material and via our social media channels,” said Davoren.

So fire up the big screen, pour the pints, and turn your pub into the go-to spot for the biggest matches.

beIN it to win it

The Optus Sport Business venue streaming platform is the exclusive home for beIN SPORTS in commercial venues, so for pubs it’s the exclusive home of all the major European football leagues. Show Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga matches in addition to the EPL games? Do you patrons enjoy tennis? Show ATP Tour or WTA tournaments. Are your locals into motorsports? Show the Porsche Carrera Cup or the Asian Le Mans series. There’s a wide variety of sports and leagues to choose from.

“Our platform, as seen by our partnership with beIN SPORTS and previous work with Prime Video and their ICC cricket rights, allows us to form dynamic partnerships, integrate their offering and deploy live sport or entertainment into commercial venues around Australia,” stated Davoren.

“Optus Sport Business has seen significant growth in the number of venues broadcasting our offering and with our new venue streaming solution and ongoing partnership with beIN SPORTS, this growth will only continue.”
