After closing its doors for renovation in late March, The Straddie Hotel, formerly known as Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel, is set to reopen this summer.
Located on Queensland’s North Stradbroke Island, venue refresh is described as one that celebrates the island’s beach lifestyle and culture for locals and tourists alike.
The improvements include a renewed bar, bistro and deck area with modern amenities and an upstairs deck extension with views of Cylinder Beach to double as a function and communal space.
The reopening comes as the island has experienced a period of lower visitation after recent cyclone impacts, with the hotel’s return expected to play a vital role in boosting tourism, creating jobs and supporting local businesses.
With upgraded facilities, family-friendly spaces and a vibrant program of live music and events, The Straddie Hotel is set to be both a community anchor and a drawcard for visitors.
Designed by KP Architects and culture agency Example, the interiors include mosaic tables alongside rattan lounges with vintage posters, surf and pub memorabilia styled on the walls.
Jordan Hazell, director of Moreton Hospitality, who acquired the property in September 2022, said it has been an honour for the group to deliver the beloved local hub back to the community.
“It’s been a privilege to bring The Straddie Hotel back to life. We wanted to create a place that feels true to the island, relaxed, fun and welcoming. The Straddie Hotel has always been more than a pub; it’s a meeting place for locals, a first stop for visitors, and a big part of what makes this island special. Bringing that back has been really important to us,” he said.
Colin Battersby, president of the Straddie Chamber of Commerce, shared the sentiment, welcoming the positive commercial impact of the venue on the community.
“The Straddie Hotel is a treasured local, central to our island’s identity and the visitor economy. With a multi-million-dollar investment into the redevelopment, its reopening strengthens local employment, tourism and sustainable growth. We’re proud to see this venue revitalised in a way that honours North Stradbroke Island’s heritage while creating new opportunities for the community and visitors alike.”
In addition, the venue has long supported events such as the Straddie Salute and the Straddie Invitational and will remain committed to backing local initiatives and fundraisers that celebrate the island’s people, culture and environment.
