Public have refurbished the venue with live music and local talent in mind.
Located on Sydney’s high-traffic Parramatta Road, The Lady Hampshire has been revived by PUBLIC, closing the venue last year for its revitalisation. Public’s portfolio includes multiple venues throughout Sydney, and emphasises the importance of community experience in its venues.
Lady Hampshire aims to highlight local talent, with live music every week from Wednesday to Sunday. The artistically inclined will be pleased to see a range of local artworks up for sale. Scott Marsh’s iconic mural has also been preserved, so patrons can still grab a drink alongside Aussie legends like Kath & Kim, Cathy Freeman, Adam Goodes, and Steve Irwin.
The beer garden provides a respite from the energy of the gig room, and has been built from 100% recycled materials.
Hotelier George Gorrow said it was important to retain the venue’s eccentric atmosphere.
“The design concept was to create an ever-evolving hospitality and music space at Lady Hampshire. It was very important for us to retain as much original character of the venue as we could and take a hands-on, honest, and raw approach, drawing inspiration from the venue’s history. Our primary focus was to expand on the venue’s role in the community as live music venue,” Gorrow explained.
Brendan King (ex Baba’s Place, FISH SHOP) is the fresh-faced head chef, at only 25 years old. Pub classics like Guinness shepherd’s pie and roast chicken will be served on mismatched vintage plates, alongside a range of snacks such as samosa spring rolls and koftas with hummus and chilli.
“I had a lot of freedom to create the menu for Lady Hampshire,” King said. “There’s pub classics with spins fitting the neighbourhood, and as Lady becomes re-lived in, the menu will evolve with it and become even more embedded in the Inner West’s food scene.”
Lady Hampshire opens on Friday 14 April with a weekend-long launch party. Acts such as Pacific Avenue, FANGZ, and Mac The Knife will be some of the first to grace the stage. Alongside the live music, Thanks Tattoo will be holding a tattoo pop-up, and nail artists will be offering free nail art.
