The venues for the Pub Leaders Summit Study Tour have been announced, visiting a mix of renowned pubs in the middle, of or recently completing, industry-leading renovations.
For the first time in the Pub Leaders Summit’s seven-year history, the event will include an optional half-day study tour, to be held on Tuesday 25 July – the day after the main conference and showcase at Eatons Hill Hotel.
The study tour – sponsored by Rohrig – will visit three pubs in the greater Brisbane area, each at different stages of redevelopment, and providing very different offerings to their local communities. Here’s a look at the stops on the study tour:
Belvedere Hotel, Woody Point
In the middle of a major and highly anticipated renovation, study tour attendees will get a sneak peek into the renovations occurring at this famed seaside pub, with Lewis Land Group Queensland manager Chris Allison talking through the plans, as well as insights from the Rohrig team, currently working on the construction.
Brook Hotel, Mitchelton
ALH Hotels have just completed a spectacular $31m renovation on the Brook Hotel – the group’s single largest investment in a Queensland pub. Walk through the brand new, completely overhauled pub with senior ALH Hotels management, getting an up-close look at the new offerings in this large-format suburban pub.
Jubilee Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Built in 1887, the Jubilee Hotel recently underwent a massive redevelopment, creating a jaw-dropping juxtaposition between the heritage-listed front bar section of the venue, and the modern concrete and glass alfresco area at the back of the venue that has already garnered a reputation as the ideal spot for inner-city lunches and functions. Family-owned and operated by Tony Burnett Hotels, the Jubilee Hotel has just been awarded Best Redeveloped Hotel at the 2023 QHA Awards.
Owner Tony Burnett spoke to Australian Hotelier after the award win, noting the amount of care and planning put into creating such an incredible renovation of the venue that honoured its history while looking to the future.
“It’s always an honour to be judged by your industry peers, and to be acknowledged by winning an award for excellence as Best Redeveloped Hotel in Queensland.
“It also means a lot to the people who participated in the three-year project; from concept to construction, then completion to operational. The Jubilee Hotel was an important redevelopment to keep the heritage alive whilst also being innovative with design and keeping our customer’s experience as our main focus. In a nutshell, we’ve created a venue for everyone to come and enjoy the Jubilee Hotel – that is our ultimate goal.”
The Pub Leaders Summit Study Tour, supported by Rohrig, gives publicans the opportunity to visit these exceptional venues while hearing from the operators themselves on the decision-making process, the offerings themselves, and how they’ve been received by their communities. It is also another networking opportunity among peers, with lunch to be provided at Jubilee Hotel.
