Porter’s Wahroonga, located in Sydney’s north, has received an allocation of a 50-year-old single malt whisky, Glenglassaugh Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection, priced at $20,000.
The bottle is one of the few bottles available in Australia, and is sourced from Cask 49, a single Pedro Ximenez quarter cask that was filled in November 1972.
Glenglassaugh Master Blender, Dr. Rachael Barrie, described the flavours the whisky imparts on the case.
“The taste profile of Cask 49 is a wonderful example of how exceptional and distinct Glenglassaugh is, as a whisky defined by its coastal location, when left to mature for decades. Each cask offers a taste experience that is both exciting and unique,” she said.
Store Manager Mitch Graham said that the store sought out the whisky due to interest from a customer.
“Leveraging Porter’s Liquor’s strong reputation for offering high-end premium whisky, we actively sought out a rare gem and discovered the Glenglassaugh 50-Year-Old Serpentine Coastal Cask. Despite limited information about this unique release, we engaged with Brown-Forman and successfully secured a bottle for one fortunate customer looking for a whisky of this calibre,” he said.
Porter’s Wahroonga has developed a reputation for its range of high-quality whisky, and Graham hopes that the Glenglassaugh allocation will build on this reputation.
“At Porter’s Wahroonga, we are focused on establishing ourselves as a destination for highly sought-after whiskies. With my deep passion for all things whisky, we are committed to curating and offering rare, unique releases like this one to meet the demands of discerning collectors and enthusiasts.
“We believe that Porter’s Wahroonga will become a recognised name in sourcing rare and hard-to-find whiskies, thanks to the extensive resources available to us through the Porter’s group,” he said.
Exclusive products, especially high-end whiskies, are already performing well at the store.
“We are positioning Porter’s Wahroonga as a go-to store for limited-edition, rare, and aged-statement whiskies. These hyper-premium products are central to our mission of offering exclusive selections to customers who value quality, rarity, and exceptional craftsmanship,” Graham said.
The exclusivity of the Glenglassaugh Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection release is enhanced by the limited information available online. However, this meant that Porter’s Wahroonga needs to be proactive about engaging with customers who may be interested in rare and hard-to-find products.
“We utilise social media platforms to strategically promote these exclusive products. By employing geo-targeting, we can identify and engage with specific regions and audiences that have a strong interest in rare and hard-to-find whiskies, ensuring our promotions reach the most relevant customers,” Graham said.
“The Glenglassaugh 50-Year-Old Serpentine Coastal Cask is a prime example of such exclusivity, an extraordinary whisky with limited information available online. Leveraging our extensive network and expertise, we are committed to helping our customers discover and acquire the unique bottles they are searching for.”
