The sequel to Stone & Wood’s Original Pacific Ale and the independent brewery’s 2018 hazy IPA The Prequel, Counter Culture launches a hazy DIPA bursting with tropical Galaxy bitterness called G3, as its seventh limited release.
They say all great things start with a journey.
Ours started back in 2008, when we first brewed the Original Pacific Ale using a little-known Tasmanian hop called Galaxy. Bursting with tropical fruit aromas and flavours and glowing in golden haze, people first called Pacific Ale a ‘perfumed fruit bomb’, such was its digression from Australia’s more popular beer styles.
A decade later, once Australian palates has adjusted to Pacific Ale’s passionfruit-like aromas and tropical flavours, our journey met a subtle twist in 2018 with the arrival of Stone & Wood’s hazy IPA The Prequel: a hoppier rendition of Pacific Ale brewed in our Pilot Batch brewery in Byron, that was only available on-tap in our Tasting Room.
Now, our journey takes another turn – but with Counter Culture at the helm.
The seventh limited release from Counter Culture, G3 is a hazy double IPA (7.6% alc/vol) brewed with the freshest Galaxy hops from Tasmania, pale malts and New England ale yeast. Hazy golden like the Original Pacific Ale, G3 showcases revved up tropical flavours with a dominant 72 IBU finish – thanks to being 13 times more dry hopped with Galaxy than Pacific Ale – that’s balanced with the pale malt, wheat and rolled oat backbone.
In celebration of tradition and history, for us G3 is a beer for looking back at where we’ve come from – and then at the road ahead. Like all the limited-release beers in the Counter Culture range, G3 is available now on Stone & Wood’s official online store and at select bottle shops around the country. The stockists listing for G3 can be found on the Counter Culture website.
In the meantime, be sure to sign up to the Counter Culture newsletter and follow @counterculturebeer to hear about each release first.
