Dan Murphy’s has announced a historic return to its original location, moving its flagship Prahan store back across the road to Prahan Arcade at 282 Chapel Street, the site where founder Daniel Francis Murphy opened his first-ever store in 1952.

Managing Director of Dan Murphy’s Agi Pfeiffer-Smith described the homecoming as a significant moment for both the retailer and the Prahan community.

“Stepping back into our original Prahran home is more than just a physical move; it’s a powerful affirmation of our enduring commitment to customers, our suppliers and our pioneering spirit – making the world of drinks accessible to everyone,” she said.

“Daniel Murphy’s vision was revolutionary, and in this beautifully reimagined store, we’re not only celebrating that incredible heritage but also setting the stage for the next chapter of Dan Murphy’s.

“We’re excited to offer an unparalleled selection and innovative experiences, all while upholding our promise of unbeatable value and expert service right where it all began.”

Spanning two levels, the flagship store now features the most extensive fine wine and imported wine selection across the entire Dan Murphy’s network. Shoppers will find more than 600 fine wines and over 700 international labels, as well as exclusive offerings such as a Grange vertical set and a significantly expanded premium Champagne collection.

A key feature of the store’s lower level is a tribute to Daniel Francis Murphy, displaying heritage memorabilia and antique bottles dating back to the store’s early days. The premium spirits section includes a discovery bay and central tasting table, designed to encourage exploration.

Although the Prahran Cellar made its return to the suburb in 2016, this year marks the full restoration and reopening of the adjoining building, officially bringing Dan Murphy’s back to its original Prahran Arcade address.

The new Dan Murphy’s Prahan store opens to the public today.
