Dan Murphy’s has raised funds for Australians facing economic and social hardship over the festive period by partaking in National GIVIT Day for the third consecutive year.
At a series of charity events hosted at its stores across the country last weekend, Dan Murphy’s has doubled its 2022 results by raising $121,052 for the cause, in addition to a $100,000 donation made directly by the liquor retailer.
The nationwide initiative took place at more than 270 stores and raised funds through community barbecues, gift wrapping stations, competitions, and gold coin donations, which will go directly to the GIVIT Families in Need this Christmas appeal.
Agnieszka Pfeiffer-Smith, Dan Murphy’s Managing Director, spoke about the opportunity to support GIVIT once again.
“We saw remarkable generosity at our stores in support of National GIVIT Day and to have the Better Beer team lend a hand to encourage donations was a fantastic outcome.
“Our partnership with GIVIT serves to make a positive impact on local communities in need of support and make this festive season brighter for everyone.”
GIVIT is a not-for-profit donation platform which allows people to directly support those in need through 4,500 charities and support organisation partners across Australia.
Caroline Odgers from GIVIT said the donation will go a long way, especially after an 84 per cent increase in demand for assistance following the pandemic and natural disasters that have affected Australians over the last few years.
“GIVIT is committed to ensuring everyone has access to the basic comforts that many of us take for granted. A donation of this size will give so many people in need access to items including kitchen equipment so a family can enjoy Christmas lunch, or toys for children living in temporary accommodation which will bring much-needed joy,” explained Caroline.
