Modern tequila-based beverage Alba lands on Australian shores

New Zealand-owned RTD brand Alba officially launches in Australia today, combining Mexican spirit with homegrown New Zealand flavours and ingredients.

Made with authentic Mexican tequila from the Magdalena Distillery in Jalisco, Alba combines tradition with innovation to craft a range of RTDs designed for the next generation of Margarita enthusiasts.

The portfolio has been designed to appeal to a range of tastes, from the classic Margarita option to a modern mix of flavours including grapefruits, coconuts, hot sauce and even olive brine.

Michael Tutty, Creative Director, says: “We are thrilled to bring Alba to Australia, a place that shares our love for good times and great vibes. Our tequila is carefully produced with the utmost respect for tradition before being blended into a convenient RTD format.

Château Tanunda unveils its 2024 Collection

Barossa Valley winery Château Tanunda unveiled its 2024 Collection last month, a series of limited-release wines which showcase the old vine treasures of the Barossa, and a testament to the winery’s dedication to crafting iconic Australian wine.

The Barossa Valley is home to some of the oldest continuously producing vineyards anywhere in the world, and the 2024 Collection features 12 wines, spanning five vintages from 2019 to 2023.

Michelle Geber, Managing Director of Château Tanunda, said: “The wines featured in this year’s Collection are truly exceptional and I am thrilled to introduce for the first time our 150 Years Old Grenache, a wine of remarkable distinction that perfectly embodies our heritage and commitment to excellence.”

The Collection showcases vintage releases from Château Tanunda’s luxury ranges, including The Château Single Vineyard, Terroirs of the Barossa, Old Vine Expressions and the pinnacle of the collection, The Everest Shiraz.

7000 Islands brings Filipino distillery Down Under

Australian-led Filipino distillery Destileria Barako has signed a distribution deal with 7000 Islands Drinks to solidify the presence of its Ube Cream Liqueur in Australia, among other products in the portfolio.

Crafted by Filipinos Junalyn Alo Kalel Demetrio, and Aussies Tyson Branz and Brendan Green, Ube Cream Liqueur can be found in restaurants and bars around Australia, with 7000 Islands hoping to expand the distillery’s presence off-premise.

Using a zero-waste process, the liqueur is crafted with sugarcane vodka from Negros, coconut husk from Mindinao and ube grown in the Philippines.

Ube Cream Liqueur has enjoyed recent success at the 2023 SIP Awards and 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition to name a few, earning a platinum and gold medal respectively.

Under the new partnership, 7000 Islands Drinks will support Destileria Barako with supply and logistics, trade, marketing and customer relationships in Australia.

Rum Co. of Fiji unveils new look packaging

Rum Co. of Fiji has announced the rebranding of its award-winning RATU and BATI ranges to reflect the true spirit of the distillery and its Fijian heritage.

Transitioning from tribal to a tropical feel, the updated look honours the distinctive Fijian style of rum-making used by Rum Co. of Fiji and incorporates a sense of place through cultural patterns, a bright tropical palette and an illustration of the iconic Sleeping Giant Mountain.

The brand logo has also been redesigned, now featuring a sugarcane stalk and a cane knife alongside the slogan “Paradise Distilled”.

Tracey McKay, Global Marketing Manager for Rum Co. of Fiji, says the new packaging has been thoughtfully designed to pay homage to the brand’s deep connection to Fiji.

 “Fiji hosts the perfect environment to make rum. The pristine water, volcanic soil and tropical climate perfect for growing sugarcane allow us to create a masterful and unique portfolio of rums.

“Details such as the hand-tied Fijian love knot and the silhouette of the Sleeping Giant Mountain on the rum labels celebrate the people and environment that create our unique award-winning rums,” she stated.

Introducing Montalto to the Pure Wine Co. portfolio

Family-owned winery Montalto is the latest addition to Pure Wine Co.’s portfolio, with the business now distributing Montalto’s three collections, the flagship Single Vineyard, Montalto Estate and Pennon Hill.

Based in the Mornington Peninsula, Montalto was established in 1998 with the vineyard’s core dating as far back as 1985 with plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Syrah.

Richard Favretto, General Manager of Principal and Trade Marketing for Pure Wine Co., sees Montalato as a strong addition to Pure Wine Co’s portfolio.

“All Montalto wines show the quality of the vineyard resources and the team’s dedication to perfection, from the Pennon Hill range to the exquisite single vineyard wines. Led by Simon Black, Montalto is crafting some of the most exciting wines in the country,” said Favretto.

Simon Black, Chief Winemaker at Montalto, is also excited about the opportunity to advance the winery’s brand.

“As a family-owned business with well-established roots on the Mornington Peninsula, we jumped at the chance to work alongside Pure Wine Co. – a company that has crafted a portfolio rich in quality and heritage,” he said.
