Discover the McWilliam’s Hanwood Estate Premium Fortified range this Winter
With their appealing sweetness and warming higher ABV, fortified wines are particularly popular in the colder months, and McWilliam’s Wine is once again leading a national advertising campaign and instore promotion to continue putting their premium fortified wines at the forefront of consumers’ minds this winter.
Senior Winemaker Russell Cody, who has been the custodian of McWilliam’s fortified wine range for more than two decades, said “The company has always been synonymous with the McWilliam’s Hanwood 10-year-old Tawny, which has been around since the 1960s. We also have such a great library of Tawny wine styles that we are able to utilise,” he said.
Hanwood Estate Premium Tawny Gift range makes for an exceptional gift, whether for wine enthusiasts, foodies, or those celebrating special occasion, they also suits a variety of gift giving budgets;
$28 RRP – McWilliam’s 10 Year Old Grand Tawny
$80 RRP – McWilliam’s 20 year Old Rare Tawny
$175 RRP – McWilliam’s exclusive 30 Year Old Very Rare Tawny
Each of these Tawny wines become more complex and interesting with their age, with each beautifully gift packaged making it an easy option for Father’s Day.
While sweetness is always a factor in fortified wines, Cody has been shifting the McWilliam’s Tawny range towards a drier style over the last five years, similar to Portuguese or Spanish fortified wines. “Compared to the Portuguese, a lot of Australian Tawny styles are much sweeter, and they can be difficult to drink,” he said. The gradual reduction in sugar content over the years and balancing acid finish makes for a clear point of difference for McWilliam’s within the Australian fortified wine market. Cody’s efforts were rewarded when at the 2023 Royal Melbourne Wine Show the Hanwood Estate 20 Year Old Rare Tawny was awarded ‘Best Fortified’ of show.
