Sirromet Wines' Terry Morris has set up a dedicated pubs division to manage his hotel operations, which have expanded to include yet another Queensland venue – the second purchased in as many weeks.
The acquisition of the Tarampa Hotel, north of Ipswich by Morris and business partner Dean Merrell means the duo have bought five Queensland hotels in the past 10 months.
The venues will be managed by their newly established pubs division, the Good Times Pub Group, which is headed up by general manager Shane O'Connor, an experienced pub operator.
"We're making sure we've got our ducks in a row before we go any further," Morris International CEO Merrell told TheShout.
He said the company will continue to seek out good investments but has no set figure in mind for the future size of the portfolio.
"If we bought a few more, we might have a breather," he said.
Morris said Sirromet's wines would be sold exclusively in the bars and restaurant, and would be available from the bottle shop, as at the other hotels he has purchased with Merrell.
"We have bought each of these hotels because we believe they are good investments, but they are also producing strong sales for Sirromet's wines and growing our customer base," he said.
"Our target is to sell approximately 20,000 bottles of Sirromet at each of our hotels. So far wine sales are better in restaurants at some hotels, and in bottle shops at others."
The latest purchase comes just six days after Morris and Merrell acquired the Australian Hotel at Boonah, 88km south west of Brisbane.
