Carlton Draught is leading the biggest innovation in draught beer with the launch of its fresh tank beer technology into two of Sydney’s iconic pubs.
From this week, Sydney’s Newtown Hotel will become the first venue north of the border to receive fresh and unpasteurised Carlton Draught tank beer straight from the Carlton & United Brewery in Melbourne followed shortly by the Royal Oak in Double Bay.
CUB says the aim is to get Sydneysiders to experience draught beer, fresh and unpasteurised. The beer is never stored and delivered directly from the brewery in special chilled tanks designed to be consumed within 14 days of brewing.
“We take the fresh Carlton Draught from a bright beer tank at the brewery, take it up the Hume Highway and straight into the specially designed copper tanks in each venue,” says CUB marketing manager Michael McKeown.
“It’s the freshest draught beer drinking experience in Sydney,” he says.
GM and licensee at The Newtown Hotel Narissa Matthews says, “It’s fair to say drinkers at the Newtown are pretty passionate about their beer, so being able to offer them something different like this is unreal. It gives our loyal customers something we know they want – the freshest possible beer.”
“The tanks are going in at the Oak in the next few weeks and we’ll have everything locked and loaded the week before Melbourne Cup. It’s good for us – we’re a big, family pub and we’ve been around for as long at Carlton Draught has been pouring,” says Royal Oak Owner Jamie Malouf.
Carlton Draught fresh and unpasteurised will be available in more venues across Australia over the next 12 months.
Beer is a volume game with tight margins. This concept appears to be marketing, not “Fresh” beer. The costs associated with trucking up beer from Melbourne to 2 venues in Sydney appears to be very unprofitable from a long term standpoint. Unless they charge more for the beer??
