The NSW Government is attempting to get the latest COVID-19 outbreak under control, and so has introduced new measures aimed at controlling the outbreak.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has called for calm in the community asking the people of Greater Sydney to not panic, but to be on alert.
The Premier said: “In relation to what we are recommending people do in the next few days. We want everyone in Greater Sydney, for the next five days we want it to be compulsory for everybody to wear masks on public transport.
“In relation to mask wearing we are recommending that in all indoor venues in Greater Sydney that you wear a mask, whether that’s a cinema, you are shopping or whether you are a hospitality front line worker. It’s not compulsory, but we are strongly recommended that especially if you can’t guarantee social distancing.
“Also we just want everybody, not matter where you live in Sydney to make sure you are hand sanitising, you have good social distancing, that you are QR code checking-in and thank you to those who have been doing that. The venues that we have been involved with [in this latest cluster] have been outstanding.”
She added: “If you are planning to go to an organised event, those events should proceed, because all major events, all outdoor events have good safety plans. So we don’t want anyone to cancel any events, just make sure you stick to the good COVID-safety plans, those plans have worked for us in NSW.
“We want everyone to appreciate that if all of us do the right thing we’re able to get through the next few days without imposing any further requirements on our population.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Police and regulatory bodies will make sure that venues, individuals are doing the right thing over the next few days in particular, I just want our citizens to do what you do best.”
The Premier said this is how the Government hopes to get through this current number of cases but added that if anything unexpected does happen regarding the outbreak, they will come back and ask the community to do more. Mask wearing on public transport in Greater Sydney will be compulsory from 4pm today.
