Westward Whiskey is joining an exciting cast of exclusive bottles that are available from 7.30pm tonight through online retailer The Whisky List.
The Westward single barrel Opacus Stout Cask joins a line-up of whiskies for The Whisky List’s ‘Something for Everyone’ holiday releases with Bushmills 2008 Causeway Collection 13 Year Old Douro Cask Finish, Spring Bay PX Cask and Firkin Caol Ila – Marsala Single Cask 9 Years Old also available, but they won’t be for long.
The Westward Opacus Stout Cask begins with the award-winning Westward American Single Malt and is then finished for an additional year in a Stormbreaker Brewing Opacus Oatmeal Stout Barrel. This process adds layers to the whiskey, and the cocoa and caramel notes from the Opacus Oatmeal Stout matches perfectly with the Westward Whiskey.
Miles Munroe, Lead Distiller and Blender at Westward Whiskey said: “We partnered with Stormbreaker Brewing because of their shared ethos for creating exceptional brews that are high quality, celebrating local ingredients and putting flavour at the forefront. Brewing is in our DNA at Westward, so this has been a rewarding collaboration to bring to life. There is only one barrel of The Opacus Stout Cask available in the world, and it’s expected to be snapped up quickly.”
Rob Lutz from Stormbreaker Brewer added: “StormBreaker, besides being the name of our brewery, is a nickname for Mt. Hood, the majestic 11,000 foot volcano that casts its shadow on Portland every sunrise. We brew our beer like Mt. Hood breaks storms coming off the Pacific Ocean, head on with intensity, and we can’t wait for Australia to be able to taste this rare Westward Opacus Stout Cask. It’s a marriage of our beer and whiskey that has never been done before, and the flavours of the original beer really come through in the whiskey.”
Oliver Maruda from The Whisky List said he was excited to have Westward as part of the special line-up of releases.
“Our customers love craft beer and whiskies they haven’t tried before, so we are proud to be exclusively stocking Westwards’ first Stout single barrel,” he said.
“This particular barrel is a standout, the oatmeal raw grain used in this Opacus Stout Cask brings a delicious creamy floral taste that really heightens the intricate flavours and makes it the ultimate tipple for any whisky or beer lover looking to taste something truly unique. This whiskey is designed to be enjoyed as a boilermaker, and while it’s of course great enjoyed neat, it’s even better together paired with your favourite beer. Give it a try.”
