Manly Spirits Co has unveiled its second expression in the ‘Element Series’ with the launch of Coastal Stone Whisky: Bourbon Cask, following on from the first expression in the series, the Sherry Cask.
The distillery began producing single malt whisky in the Northern Beaches of Sydney over four years ago and having already won multiple awards across the globe for its gins, vodkas, liqueurs and pre-mixed drinks, the team are hopeful the whisky will also be well received.
“Many will know from our white spirits that we work hard with the team to consistently create artisan spirits that tell the story of quality Australian ingredients and unique, yet balanced flavours,” said David Whittaker, Co-owner and Master Distiller of Manly Spirits Co.
“What people may not know is that behind the scenes of distilling spirits for almost five years, we’ve been making our Single Malt Whisky from grain to glass – experimenting, refining, and crafting our whisky to achieve that same consistent and premium standard of our white spirits.”
This inaugural series from Manly Spirits will comprise five unique and distinct whisky styles from five different casks; Sherry, Bourbon, Pinot, Port and Shiraz.
Whittaker aded: “We wanted our Element Series to be almost like a sneak preview into what people can expect from the Coastal Stone range of whisky in future.
“And while four out of five of the expressions celebrate the Australian wine industry by using ex-fortified casks from Australian wineries, our ex-Bourbon cask expressions are something we’re particularly excited about, and definitely something you can expect to see more of in the coming years.”
The Bourbon Cask expression takes on the heritage of Kentucky Bourbon whiskey with Manly’s new make spirit being matured in 200L and 100L ex-Kentucky bourbon casks for four years.
The remaining expressions will be released every couple of months over the next year. Majority of the casks were distilled and laid down four years ago, being expressions of the maritime elements and raw nature of the Australian coast, combined with the desire to create a whisky that exceeds expectations.
