The New England region in northern NSW was officially launched as the recognised wine region New England Australia at gatherings in Armidale and Tenterfield this week.

Covering an area from Tenterfield to Tamworth, the new brand name will represent 42 wineries and 20 cellar doors.
President of the New England Wine Growers Association and owner of Doctors Nose Wines, Peter Reid, said the development reflects the success of wine grape growers the area.

“It means we are a recognised wine growing region for volume and quality, born from medals won by many of the vineyards in the New England region,” Reid said.

Reid said many people worked on the project for more than two years, aiming to identify the region more clearly.

“Peter Sniekers from the NSW Department of State and Regional Development prepared documents and completing much of the follow-up work. He was terrific,” Reid said.
