The Northern Territory Police has reported seizing a large quantity of alcohol, which it said was destined for a remote community in the MacDonnell Region.

The NT Police said that on Saturday morning Southern Traffic Members stopped a grey Holden Commodore that was travelling north along the Stuart Highway south of Alice Springs. A search of the vehicle saw police uncover and seize approximately 247 litres of alcohol.

Assistant Commissioner Martin Dole said “This was a fantastic work by traffic members who have made a huge impact on secondary supply in the region.

“We know the illicit supply of alcohol has far reaching financial and social impacts on vulnerable remote communities and will do everything we can to disrupt its supply and distribution.

“Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs into our communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

The 25-year-old driver has been issued with driving infringements and the incident remains under investigation and the alcohol has been destroyed by police.
