Victoria’s Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has welcomed the public response to its tip-off service, saying it is helping the commission to get results.
The tip-off function was launched by the VGCCC in June last year and asks Victorians to tell the VGCCC if they saw or thought that something wasn’t quite right in the gambling industry.
The Commission said: “We take every tip-off seriously as part of our role to ensure a fair and safe gambling industry.
“Tip-offs we’ve received have provided valuable information to direct our compliance and monitoring activities, leading to investigations and the detection of breaches. For example, we’ve taken action where venues used incorrect responsible gambling codes of conduct and warned multiple venues about advertising breaches.
“We’re interested in concerns the community has in things they’ve seen or experienced in gaming venues such as minors gambling, or receiving gambling offers from a wagering company when they shouldn’t be.
“There are some tip-offs and complaints that we can’t help with as they don’t involve a gambling breach. But, where we believe an issue may be addressed by other agencies and regulatory bodies, we will refer these matters to the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), Victoria Police, Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and other state gambling regulators.”
The VGCCC said that public tip-offs help ensure the Victorian gambling industry is accountable to ensure integrity, safety, and fairness for all.
